Ady Gil formerly Earthrace sank after a collision with a Japanese Whaler.
While I don't want to get into who's to blame (watch the video, make your own call), it did peak my interest in the boat Earthrace.
Earthrace was a very cool looking and technological stinkpot (smells like french fries). It holds the world record for global circumnavigation for a motor boat at 60 days, 23hrs. and 49 min. Set June 27 2008. It was used to promote the environment, since it ran on biodiesel.
I think it's interesting that the sailing circumnavigation record, held by Orange II is a full 10 days faster. 5o days, 16 hrs and 20 min. Even the single handed sailing record is faster at 57 days, 13 hrs, and 34 min, aboard IDEC.
Which is better for the environment ? GO WIND!
