It's a wonderful boat!

Raul: The H'31 is probably the largest 31' boat on the market new or used. Sails good, good accomodations etc. Could use a little more engine but very adequate. New interior is about $1100-1800 for all the cushions and foam (if required). Sails are about $2000 for full featured main and about $1500 for a jib. If the hardware has not been upgraded (sheet stoppers, blocks, organizers etc) it needs to be done. Check the holding tanks for any leaks. Be sure that the waste hoses are all in good condition. Be sure that the gate valves have been replaced by ball valves or seacocks. Be sure you get a survey. Check the deck (specifically around the mast), check the compression post. If the door on the head does not close and/or latch properly, you may have a problem. Boats in good condition are in the high 20's to low 30's depending on condition and equuipment.

I love mine

Bought my 83' h31 two years ago. Below there is more room than most 31'ers and it is very easy to sail single handed. Check the points Steve makes and get a good survey. Chuck Dickhut S/V Kililani

H '31 Great value

We've had our Hunter 31 for 16 years. Every year at the boat shows we keep waiting to see a similar size boat with more room inside or better lines. You will save thousands of dollars by purchasing a quality H'31. It's great for a couple and easy to solo. We have put many many miles under our keel in the Great Lakes and the boat has handled everything well. Yes, there are going to be upgrade issues with a boat this old. However, (as Steve pointed out) get a quality survey, spend some money on a new sail or two, give her some TLC and you've got a wonderful new addition to the family.

GREAT VALUE/BOAT!!

I have owned my 84 31 for about a year now, I agree with Steve Dion on getting a survey, be shure to have the rigging checked also! You may get brand new sails made for the boat for about $900. head $900. main, if needed. The link below will take you to somersetsails.com they will build them for that. I have added an inverter and golf cart batterys which is real cool and pretty cheap to do. Check out that deisel!

Love my Hunter 31

I have had my Hunter 31 1984 for two years now and am still thrilled to sail her. She points well and is a blast to sail in 15 knot winds. For the money, I do not know of another boat I would rather have. Only maintenance my boat really needs is a new set of sails.

Good boat

Chuck, I bought an '84 H31 last March and I am very pleased with the boat. It has demanded a lot of work on some upgrades since, e.g. new main, sheets, new bimini, engine hoses and a few other items. Considering the age of the boat and what I know of other more expensive boats, I believe that these upgrades that I have done, would also be necessary in any other boat this age regardless of their quality. Sails hoses and the like wear over time period. My general view is that it is a lot of boat for the money, very ample, fun to sail and can probably take a lot more than most of us dare to throw at her. If you are willing to spend some time on her and giving her the necessary upgrades I believe you will very satisfied. Get a survey and pay particular attention to the mast compression post as it can be either a small job if caught on time or a big job if allowed to get bad from what I have read in the reviews. Let us know if you got it and then what you think of it after you sail it around and work on it. By the way I have found the contributors to this site absolutely wonderful in their support of other Hunter owners; I receive correct answers and quickly. You will also find Hunter Marine helpful in their technical support, but not like this web site. Good Luck Ed

Great Appreciation Potential

...As has been said by someone on this site before...."The more I sail her... The more I appreciate her". Yesterday's Dream 1985 H31 Hull #31395

Raul, you should have asked someone on the........

Catalina or Beneteau site about the H'31. As you can clearly see this is a well liked boat. I doubt that you are going to find anyone here that does not like there H'31. I am always amazed the comments we get on ours after all of these years. Be sure that you get it checked out. If you can find a surveyor that "really" knows Hunters you will be better off. They can look for "Hunter" problems, which there are a few. These boats sell quickly so, if you find a nice one grab it up.
