Hunter 240 Muskegon
Check this out. I step my mast 3-4 times a year to trailer to different ports along the shores or Lake Michigan and this little gem simplifies the process. It profides enough slack in the forestay to pin jib furler. After you have the pin in you flip the lever to take out the slack. I had it professionaly installed by a rigger which cost me $135. Had it done four yrs ago, had all the rigging tuned, more then paid for itself in ease of stepping the mast. BTW, I have a Hunter H240, basically same concept.

Simplify stepping the mast or tension rigging with the ease of a lever.

The ability to quickly un-tensioning the rig can make a world of difference righting a catamaran or unstepping the mast. C Sherman Johnson quick release levers are engineered to take up 2 1/8" and feature a positive stop to prevent injury when released under pressure. Increased area on the lever make tensioning the rig easier on your hands. 316 stainless steel is used throughout the quick release to provide strength and corrosion resistance. A quick release pin is included to secure the lever in the tensioned position. Ideal for trailered sailboats up to 26' to speed up stepping and unstepping the mast and a must for catamarans to reduce the effort required to recover from a knock-down.

Key Features

  • Allows quick tool-less release of rigging tension
  • Speeds up stepping and unstepping the mast for trailered boats up to 26'
  • Reduces effort to right catamarans after a knock-down
  • Constructed of 316 stainless steel for strength and corrosion resistance
  • Includes quick release locking pin
  • Clevis pins secured with cotter ring for tool-less installation
Here is the link from West Marine, I paid $65 from the rigging dealer in Town.

Dave, I am at home in Oroville right now so can't take a picture until next week. As I am sure you know, the Catalina mast raising system was so poor that I designed my own. I use the mainsheet tackle and made a mast base standoff pole to raise it with one of the wenches and 2nd wench has safety line through bow pulpit as a check line. Tall mast, wing keel is configuration. I normally raise the mast while on the trailer but just did it on the water as well. Mine has the stern post that fits in the rudder pintles. Didn't use stern post when I did it on the water and at the finger pier. Do not know type of furler and it is my first furler in all my years of sailing! Chief

GL-WP, yes the levers are great as I had one on my Clipper Marine 26. It works fine with hardware extension but want to reduce extra hardware if possible. I likely have the turnbuckle under the black plastic lower unit but hesitate to play with it while up. Guess I could safety tie with my jib halyard though. Thanks, Chief
