I am considering ordering an asymmetrical spinnaker for my 170. I plan to run the tack line thru a block at the bow, just ahead of the forestay connection. Hunter supplies a spinnaker "sprit" (a pole that extends off the bow)to attach the block. I need advice. The spinnaker for the 170 is relatively small and I plan to launch it by hand or out of a bag. I don't intend to use a whisker pole. Several people have told me they are not necessary on a spinnaker of this size. What is the best way to launch and retrieve the spinnaker in your opinion?? Thanks in advacne for your advice.

I will tell you about my experiences with a seaward 17.I set the cruising spinnaker out of the bag. Attach bottom of bag to deck, have head ,tack, clew all rigged, have sheet set to about what it should be for tack angle, quickly raise halyard and cleat off. Thats all there is to it. Take downs are just reverse. I used two sheets and tacked around the forestay, bought sheets back to a turning block on stern gunwale and forward to winch. Good luck red
