Hack Nagler

My wife and two brothers-in-law just bought a 26.5 off a cradle. Launch day is coming, then a trip partly accross open Lake Huron 30+ miles to Grand Bend. Any advice regarding sailing characteristics, motoring characteristics, that any of you would share would be helpful. How easy to furl? How does she sail furled? How much wind can the jenny handle? How big a chop can she sail into? Once we're up in Grand Bend we have time to day sail and get a feel for the boat, but the open water part without experience with this particular boat has got me thinking, so anything anyone has to offer is appreciated. Good thinking

It sounds like you might be thinking that you should get to know the boat before taking it across one of the Great Lakes. That's good thinking. Trust your good instincts and make a couple days of it and make sure everything works. Good luck and have a great trip!

Give it a try!

Give it a try before you go out on the open sea. If you spend a day with your new wonderful boat together with your crew, you'll get to know each other. And when you're out there and the wind gets going or the sea gets rough, then you know what to do - if you've tried it before. In my experience there's no correct answer to the questions how much wind or how much sea she will hold. It's just how well can you handle the situations and how willing are you to give up and turn around, when it gets tough. And have another go the next day when the wind is lighter. Good sailing Toomas
