Adler Barbour venting

I have a 1986 C-36 with a newer Adler Barbour refer unit that was installed by the prior owner in the port lazarette. I naturally threw all kinds of stuff (such as lines, fenders, brushes, bucket, etc) into the lazarette and wonder if I am not leaving enough ventilation room for the refer unit. I notice frost and ice building up on the lines near the unit, which I imagine will lead to standing water in there when in melts. Any comments? Thanks, Trevor S/V Dunoon

Ventilation

Frosting lines near the compressor is a sign that the unit is getting too hot. ie: no ventilation. Clean the lazarette out and see if the frost retreats. If it does, the unit was starving for air. If it does not, then the unit was probably serviced and is overcharged.

Thanks Bill... what to do?

I noticed the frosting lines near the unit when I cleared out the lazarette to work on the engine panel. They still frost up when the lazarette is completely empty! Overcharged? If this is a sign of a problem, what do I need to do in order to repair it? Thanks for your response! Trevor

What to do?

Due to the clean air act, you cannot just vent the refrigerant out through the access valve. The charge level has to be reduced via recovery equipment by a fridge tech. Try Miller and Miller @ 206-285-5958. They will reduce the charge until the frost line retreats within 3 feet of the icebox.
