Does anyone know the duty cycle for an old Adler Barbour. Mine is 50% with 5 on and 5 off.

I don't think anyone can give you a realistic answer to this question. The cycling is based on the insulation qualities of your box. If you beef up your insulation, you can probably reduce the cycling by adding insulation.

Many of the mfg. seem to use 4" of insulation as their base mark. The mfg usually have rating based on these numbers.

Reefer

The units on our boat cycle based on the ambient temperature, thermostat setting, how frequently we open the reefers for supplies, etc. During the cooler months it will remain off for much longer periods than during the warmer summer months.

18 years ago on my 33 Outisland with a custom but not overly built box, 50 per cent is what I was getting out of an Adler Barbour.

Depends..

The cycles are generally dictated by the amount of insulation you have in your ice box. I've seen some really well insulated ones run 20% of an hour and some poorly insulated ones run upwards of 70% of an hour.

If the unit was not in an ice box it could conceivably run 100% of the time or until it cooled the Earth or winter set in...;) 50% is not a terrible number unless it used to run at 20% and then you may need to find the leak and recharge.
