I shortened my forestay so that my mast is basically 90 degrees to the water and the boat points better. In doing so, I realized there is a much easier way to accomplish the same without much to do. The way I did it was to take apart the roller furling and shorten the foresay itself. After about 4 hours of labor, I realized that all I needed to do was to drill one hole slightly higher in the mast for the forestay clamp (love this boat lingo :)) and I would be done.

Hounds. They call that a hound. The place where a fractional rig's forestay (headstay, same thing) attaches to the mast. Just thought I'd mention that since you like the nautical lingo.
