Does anyone know what would be the best system to use so we can add an adjustable backstay to a hunter 34. It has the standard split backstay now and is a 1984
Greg:I am not sure, but most things I have read about these rigs do not recommend adj. of the back stay. I am sure we will get some feed back about this. You may also contacting the folks at Hunter. I'm sure that they can give you some insite on the B&R rigs.
is the best. use it on my 84 H34. See pg 323 of the Defender Catalog. It has 2 sheaves rolling on each of the split stays to minimize the bend of the wire. Order it with the Sheave and attach as shown in the 3rd picture with a 2 or 3 or 4-1 purchase on your port or starboard side. The next part gets dificult to explain as to where to attach the pull down system. Call me @ 847-543-0016 & I'll explain so you will NOT have to drill or tap holes into the hull & the attachment points will be as strong as what you have now.BOL PJ
Be carefull, I have been told that back stay adjusters on a B and R rig are not advisable. They would unloaad your upper and lowers, add more prebend, increase mast compression and yes, you might get a little better pointing and performance from your jib. Unless expense(repairs) is(are) no problem in pursuit of a 25 cent ribbon . . . .I would not do it.
