I am going to be using indoor/outdoor carpet as hull liner and recently saw a post about using spray contact adhesive rather than trowling on adhesive. Who knows the brand name of the spray contact adhesive that I should use? I had been planning on just trowling on some adhesive but the person who posted the response said that trowling on adhesive was too goopy & the adhesive soaked through the carpeting. The procedure described was to spray the adhesive on the hull interior & the back of the carpet and then using a rolling pin to adhere the two.

Carpet Adhesive

Tammy, I completed the some project on my boat 2 1/2 years ago. I purchased a foam backed carpet from Lowes Home Improvement center and purchased the adhesive that the sales person recommended for the carpet. It was troweled on using a groved trowel and everything worked beautifully. With spray stuff you can have overspray everywhere. Troweling to me anyway was much easier and cleaner. We ended up with a perfect job, no bleed through and so on. In fact, using this type of adhesive allowed me to position the carpet into place easily then by working from the center outwardly to remove air pockets. Good luck with your project.

Foam backing on carpet

Darrel, Did you use a commercial carpet? At one point I was looking at commercial grade carpeting because it was available in 15 foot width and had more color options but decided against it because it wasn't very "fluffy". I wanted something with a little higher nap to make up for the loss of the cushioning(not that there was much)from the factory installed hull liner. I've been looking at indoor/outdoor carpet that has no backing material. Have you had any trouble with the foam backing because of your Florida heat/humidity?
