Additional Fresh Water

One item of concern as we departed on an extended cruise in southwest Florida, was the ability to carry more than the 35 gallons carried in the water tank. Since I had a couple of empty 5-gallon vegetable oil containers from past frying in our deep fryer (turkey cooker), I thought these would make good containers of fresh water for the boat. They are NOT rigid but not completely collapsible either, so the storage location was important. I do not like to carry the rigid water containers along the side decks strapped to the shrouds in case we have to scramble forward. So this is what I came up with.

I put a 28 gal tank under the V berth. It works well - water lasts more than a week and able to shower. The extra weight forward has not caused problems. As you use the water the load is lessened.

Did you put your extra tank forward of the factory tank under the V-Berth? We have been trying to find a use for that wonderful large yet unassailable space.

Yes it fits forward of the factory installed tank. The fill hose is located on port just left of the anchor locker door.

We too have been thinking about trying to use that space for additional water storage. Did you use a hard tank or a bladder? Did you vent the second tank and if so, how? Is the fill line connected to the factory tank fill or is it independent? Is the supply line to the second tank plumbed into the factory tank or does it run independently?

Any installation details or photos would really be appreciated. Thanks, Eric
