Hello. Has anyone added additional cleats to the middle of a Hunter '27? We have an '81 Hunter '27 that has the factory cleats. We would like to add a cleat to the middle of the port side hull (our slip is a bit fussy, and we think this would help). However, we are wondering the best way to do this. Any help is appreciated. By the way, we love our Cherubini design!! The Grounds Fantasy Waukegan, IL

added mid-ships cleats to our '77 h27. Orwas that a feature that was dropped as the production run continued? There are two keys to mounting any key component on your deck: Drill-fill-drill. Drill a 3/4 " hole through the deck. Fill the hole with epoxy. Once it is hard, sand it, then drill the 1/4 " hole for the hardware. That keep water from ever entering the balso core from the hole. Ample stainless steel backing plate for the bolts on the undersideof the deck. Then coat all the facing surfaces with 3M 5200, and mount them. David Lady Lillie

Maybe not the 5200

While the 5200 will certainly perform its job well, it may do it TOO well. I would never put that stuff on anything that may have to be removed in the future. It is truly impossible to remove without damaging the surrounding area. Be very sure about the permanance of any application of 5200 or its variants.

Toe Rail Cleat

Jennifer, I not familiar with your particular model but if you have the same toe rail with all the holes in it (for attaching genny sheet snatch blocks) then you should get a pair of those clamp-on cleats. I forget who makes them but they advertise in all the sailing mags. I've had them on my '81 H33 for three years now and they're strong as oxen and work like a champ. And I think they were only about $50 or so a pair. Bolt them to the tow rail and you're done.

$54 EACH

i don't have my west catalog handy but i think they are $54 EACH which is a bit much. i used a snap shackle on my spring lines and snap it thru one of the holes on the toe rail...works fine
