I have a Raytheon 420 charplotter. Is there anyway to upgrade it to include WAAS or differential?

Hey There. I installed a WASS system on my 380. I have a RL70C Radar Chartplotter. I bought the Ravnav 300 GPS/Plotter because it is almost cheaper than buying just the WASS antenna separately. I installed the 300 in my NAV station and Sea-Talked the 300 to my RL70C. Works great. You should note that the 300 has a special set-up in the menu section which allows you to use the WASS. Hope this helps.. scottb@thepostshop.com

Yes, for a price!

Unfortunately the 420 gets its position information from an active NMEA GPS sensor. It can be upgraded by purchasing the GPS sensor (antenna) to a 120 WAAS NMEA Sensor (Part#E32026) and upgrading the software in the 420. The GPS would have the accuracy of WAAS without the software, but it would not indicate "SD" for the satellite differential fix and would not have the "tides and current" feature of the 425. The GPS sensor (E32026) will be a large part of the cost of a 425 complete system.

The 300 and the 320 are WAAS systems, but they do NOT have the Raystar 120 WAAS sensors. The smart part is in the 300 and the 320 heads. You will have a hard time interfacing a 420/425 and a 300/320 because the 420/425 is not SeaTalk compatible and does not have a NMEA input. The 420/425 is usually marketed for stand-alone applications.
