Adding Oil to Diesel

I am a new owner of the Hunter 30, 1990. I need to add oil. I can't see any way of doing this without pumping it in. There does not seem to be anyway to increase the clearance over the top of the motor. Am I missing something concerning the access panels?

On my Legend 37...

...I have very little clearance abve the engine also. I picked up a cap at Home Depot (in the lawn mower dept) that has a twist open/close valve. It fits onto a quart oil bottle and has a 3" flexible spout. That's how I get it into mine. Close it, stick the spout in, open it and squeeze /pump the oil in.

get a funnel with a hose

Hi Bruce, I have a 91 30T. I got a funnel which has an 2 ft extension (hose) on it. Just open the top under the stairs, pull out the drawers. Pop the top on the value cover, and place the hose in the opening. Jim Wharton jdwharton8@attbi.com

squeeze it

I am also a new owner Of a 1989 Hunter 30. The first time I used a funnel and a hose. Then I bought a quart of gear lube from an auto parts store just to get the plastic cap with a pointed noozle. This cap also fits my quart bottle of engine oil. Now I just squeeze oil into the dip stick hole.

Opening on the top

Hi Jim, The only openings I have found are on the sides. Are you saying you have a opening on top under the stairs? Another question, my dip stick is about 6" long with a mark at the top and another one about 5" below that. Does anyone know what the distance between the marking indicates? 1 quart?

Hunter 30 oil

Bruce I bought a plastic screw on pouring spout from an automotive shop, the kind that you can shut off with a quick twist until you get it in position then twist open to pour the oil in. It takes a while to pour and needs a squeeze now and then, but solves the access problem. Other than that the 2GM has given me no problems and the boat is great. Ray

Opening Above Engine

On my H-30T (1991) there is an opening above the engine. The engine cover is hinged on the aft side and when lifted it reveals a tray in which I keep silverware. Lift out the tray and the top of the engine is exposed. Makes it very easy to add oil and work on the engine from above. The top mark on the 2GM20F dipstick indicates full and and bottom mark indicates VERY low, but don't know how much it takes to fill between the two marks.
