Greetings,
Any 30 owners have a good location for routing a manual bilge pump? There is not much room in bilge for large hoses and can't see how to get a hose past the engine pan and out the back. Having a manual pump in the cockpit is the ideal solution but the mechanics have me puzzled. Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.

I installed a Whale manual pump on my H30, 1979 vintage. I mounted the pump on the interior bulkhead of my cockpit locker. You may have a lazarette locker in the stern, but it should be doable like mine as follows:
Mount pump with access for the handle in the cockpit. Run the intake hose from the pump into the bilge area going down, then forward.
Run the exhaust hose from the pump to your scupper drain hose with a T connector.
No need to cut another hole in the hull.

This set up works if there is more than 2 inches of standing water in my bilge. I dot really use it much, it's there if I find I have a leak above the water line and we have lots of rain (in Fla.). If I'm aboard and ever spring a leak below the waterline, it's there for mad pumping until the leak can be stopped.

In 33 yeaers of cruising on Intuition, I've never had to use the pump in 'anger'!

Keep us posted on your progress.

My 79 has a whale pump in the cockpit on the lower bulkhead starboard side forward by the companionway. The exhaust hose is piped to the cockpit drain. The intake hose is coiled up in the compartment under the sink. I'd have to pull it out and poke it into the bilge to use it. Boat came that way (previoius owner?). Apparently they didn't figure out a way to get it past the engine pan, and I haven't tried. I've tested it, but haven't had to use it in anger either.

Similar to the previous replies, '79 H30 with Whale diaphragm pump mounted on a plywood extension of cockpit 'floor'/deck (aft cockpit) (rudder stops are also mounted there for the quadrant). Removable handle accessible from the helm position, aft cockpit. The 2" hose goes from the bilge under the deck the engine comp't, along the stbd side of the engine back to the pump. It has its own 'hole' overboard well above the waterline. No problem picking up suction when we tested but has to be significant water in the bilge (at least 2-3 inches). Only problem we've seen is that a clamp securing the hose to the bulkhead broke loose and the hose got a bit close to the engine seawater pump and wore a hole. Otherwise works well for us, no complaints.
