Adding an access hatch

I am contemplating adding a "Sure Seal Locking Waterproof Hatch" manufactured by T-H Marine to the cockpit sole of my Pearson 30 to provide better access to the Atomic 4. I would appreciate comments from this list, especially those that may have done it on their boats.

I'm thinking about it....

....and since my cockpit sole needs to be recored, it just might happen. Every time I try to wedge my 6'5" overweight, arthritic body down through the sail locker or in around the quarter berth to change oil,impeller, etc, I think how nice it would be to have an opening right above the 'lurking beast'. I've looked at several ideas, but haven't decided on any yet. The main consideration is how secure can you make it against weather, the weight and traffic of crew, etc? Oh well, it's fun thinking about it....
