adding a water temp gauge to yanmar 8 hp

I have recently purchased a hunter 27 (cherubini) with a yanmar 8hp. The engine doesn't appear to have a temp. gauge...but rather a small red idiot light. I would like to add a dash water temp. gauge. Has anyone done this. It seems as though I could simply unscrew that water sensor from the engine and replace it with a compatible sensor and gauge. Any suggestions?

You need the following parts

Yanamr part no. 124617-97840 temp gaugeMack Boring part no. 274. These are the parts I used to change from idiot to gauge. This was for a 3GMF. You need to confirm they will fir your engine.
