Adding Transom Port- Hunter 23.5& want pictures of generator

I am looking to see if someone can tell me if I would be loosing too much structural integrity in putting in a transom port about 5"x10" between the swim ladder and the rudder. It would add some extra light to the lower area but my main reason would be to vent out a portable A/C that I would be putting just aft of the sink. I need to vent the A/C and I could add a port to inside the cockpit but then if I have the A/C running it would be venting hot air into the cockpit. My next project will be to see how I can hang or mount a Honda Generator on the transom so it is out of the way any photos would be helpful.

Interesting idea.

I don't know structurally, (i imagine there is significant transom stress at the rudder/pintle connection) but my concern is how to get the port sufficiently high so that it could not be a source of water ingress if you were in a significant following sea. I've had the "pleasure" of putting a backing plate on the lower gudgeon fitting as well as running wiring up against the transom. The part of the transom which is accessible from under the cockpit sole is very close to the waterline.

An exhaust port into the cockpit would seem to me the safer option. I believe the Hunter 240 does have a cockpit port light which may be worth your considering. As for heat going into the cockpit, I assume you'd be buttoned up down below when running the AC.

How big a generator does your AC require?

The a/c I have is a 9000 btu that requires 950 watts so I bought a 2000 generator. I already had the portable a/c. I would mout the port as high as I can get it.

Might be easier to make a new lower crib board and put the vent connection in the crib board. you could stow te AC unit when not in use behind the companionway steps.

I vent my portable ac thru portal starboard side cockpit window,cant even hear it run.Install ac behind stairs and curtained off rear birth since only use it for storage.Vent tube does put out some heat so curtains keep it confined.

My boat is a 1993 and does not have a port in the cockpit. Does any body have any ideas about how to put the generator off the transom.?

Trying to figure out what you are trying to do. send me an email with your phone number and indicate 23.5 AC condit. Hond 2000 will work fine for a 9k btu. What type of ac unit?
