...what the heck, no one else is responding. My girlfriend keeps harping on me about putting wheel steering on my boat...to me that's like putting an automatic transmission in a Ferrari...isn't going to happen...there are other fish in the sea.Ok, to get a little serious for a minute...think about the single cable systems that are used for motor boats...a couple hundred dollars compared to a 2K Edson system. The possibilities are endless.
Carl - have a look at Don & Lynn Sheppards Webpage on the Mac 25 section of www.macgregor-boats.com. I would tend to agree with dave - if only because of the space I think a wheel would take up in the cockpit, however, it may look quite cool!
Agree with Dave, and a 25 is pretty small for a wheel, which will make a sports car feel like a dump truck. Its more appropriate for heavier boats, but I know people do it cause I've read it here.
1991 M26S owner...The wheel steering system definitely does take away from the cockpit space - but it does have one intangible benefit that many veteran boater may have forgotten - it has made the boat extremely wife/family freindly! The wheel system was on the boat whn I bought it and I have now grown quite fond of it. The handling is not as responsive but I have learned to adapt.Makes winter storage a bit more problematic since there are more attachments to the motor.
