I'd like to add a staysail rig to my 450. Does Hunter offer a "kit" and is it something I want to try and do on my own? I have talked to a couple of 450 owners who have the staysail and they seem to like having the option available to them. Comments please.

Parts for Inner forestay

Look at your Owners manual, page 40B it has a list of what you will need. One should be able to order it from Hunter. I rigged mine myself, just took time. You will also need some plastic plugs for cosmetic purposes, for the headliner, after you attach the padeyes on the foredeck. My mast already had the slot(retainer) that was necessary to insert the forestay, which is a part that seems to have been omitted on the option list? Good luck>

Thanks Bob

Thanks Bob. I now remember that you did the installation yourself. I'll take a look in the manual for required parts. Say "hello" to Linda

Stay Sail for 450

e looked into having this done for us in Virginia. The dealer was not very encouraging. Apparently much depends on what year your boat is. Ours is a new to us 1997. In 1997 Hunter used a different mast and rig than they do today and the parts may not be available from Hunter. Also no one can tell us if they will find an optional plate when they cut in. No records apparently. Therefore we could not even get a cost estimate. We were so discouraged we basically gave up on the idea for now. Would love to hear how you make out. We would also love to hear how often people who have them use them.
