Hi,

I put an offer in on a 2009 Beneteau 37 that doesn't have a microwave. Does anyone how difficult it will be to install one? Im asking more from an electrical point of view. Anyone know if there is power there on the models that did not come with a microwave?

Unclear what you are asking -

Is it whether there is a 120 VAC outlet near the galley shelf? Or
Whether the boat’s electrical system can run one?

The answer to the latter question isn’t predictable on a 10+ yr old boat where any number of previous owners likely made changes with batteries, inverters, etc...

The B37 has a dedicated cabinet over the chart table for a microwave. What I'm asking is whether I should expect a 110v outlet inside that cabinet to plug the microwave into on a boat that didn't originally come with a microwave, or whether I will have to install one. Thanks.

Our 37 came with the microwave, so unfortunately I don’t know for sure if the outlet would be there otherwise. The MSRP from the dealer for the microwave option was $385, which I’m guessing is just for the unit itself. The item description is just “Microwave 110V”.

The good news is that even if the outlet isn’t there it probably wouldn’t be too hard to add. It’s on the same breaker as the other outlets, and that cabinet is adjacent to the AC panel, so no need to snake wires far around the boat.

Perfect! Thanks for the info.

If you have an inverter on the boat, when you select your microwave oven make sure that it is compatible with the inverter. Many microwave ovens will only work with pure sine wave inverters while most boats have modified sine wave inverters. Also a 700watt microwave will not work with a 700 watt inverter. The power needs of the microwave are much higher than wattage rating of the microwave.

The location of the AC outlet for our m/w is in the upper left rear corner or the microwave cabinet (above the chart desk). It's a single flip covered receptacle, just like the others throughout the boat. The only thing that we use ours for is reheating coffee and tea when we are at a marina, and storing the tortilla chips and hamburger buns when we are not.

Great! Thanks for the info. I agree that the MW will probably get seldom used, but very convenient when needed.

I checked the boat and there is an outlet installed in the microwave cabinet, so it should be pretty easy to add a microwave.
