adding a kicker

I want to add a kicker to my C-27 (inboard model). Any recommendations on the locating a spring loaded mount on the transom? Should I use a standard or long shaft outboard? Would a 9.9 hp be adequate? Much of my sailing is in western Long Island Sound, used for daysailing and an occasional overnighter. Thanks

Why?

I'm curious as to why you want to do this. Is your inboard unreliable? If so, you might be better off addressing that issue. In any case, the 9.9 should be adequate as a full time engine and more than adequate if you're just looking for an emergency back-up. In that case something smaller and lighter should suffice like a 5hp. You'll probably need a long shaft. The archives should have quite a bit on C-27 outboards.

Thanks for the reply

As this is the first season that I have the c27, I have had an over heating problem, the engine quit after about 40 minutes of running and just recently, the prop shaft key seemed to have be thrown, shearing the set-bolt on the transmission flange. So far, I have been able to repair the first two items myself and am in the process of fixing the latter. If I can not fix it in the water, I may have to pull the boat for the season to do the repair. I can sail to and from a mooring,no problem. Last time I did that, I was over due 5 hours... wind died. My first mate is skeptical about the engine; what will happen NEXT! Hence, the kicker.
