Can I add a Cam Cleat just forward of the winch about 6 to 8 inches. I see them located like that on a Hunter 260 near me. Can I access the underside? It seems that the inner liner would prohibit access.
I added a SPINLOCK Three line Clutch assembly in the location where the clam cleats were. The is a metal plate wedged in the fiberglass so it was no problem. I tapped the plate and just screwed it done and sealed it underneath. I also added a one lineclutch to the other side for the roller furler.
There is no backing up there. If you cut your headliner you could get to a backing plate and your nuts. I think somone did somthing similar and used 4" inspection ports (you know the round white ones that screw in) to take care of the holes.
i need to do the same thing. i talked to west marine and their scheffer, and harken, (and seems like another brand), all had spacing wrong on the bolts to fit my existing cleat holes. its been a few weeks bit seems like mine are spaced at 1 3/16" and cleats are all at 1 1/2" for 3/8" line. i too will need the wedges.
I took up the regular cleat on one side and put in a spin lock as per Crazy Dave's instuctions and it worked very well so now I need to get another spinloc. Make sure and get the wedge that goes underneath the spin loc so the angle will be right for locking and unlocking from the cockpit seats.
I would order them through Defenderhttp://www.defender.com/cgi-bin/Web_store/web_store.cgi?keywords=px&frames=yes&store=yes&search_request_button=Searchorhttp://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&productId=8434
Rick's suggestion for the Spinlocks worked well for me for a while . . .I found the PX type cleats really difficult to operate under high load conditions. I put wedges under them but still found myself having to take extra time and effort to engage or disengage the cleat. I removed the PX's and installed Harken cams on a slightly elevated pivoting base. This seems to work better for me . . .as we continue to attempt to race our 23.5.
