Hello

I have just purchased a Catalina 30 Mk3. I would like to add a starting battery and make the two group 27 the house bank
Any ideas on best placement and battery ?
Many thanks in advance

I put a G24 as a reserve battery under the starboard settee right in front of the chart table (some C30s have a water tank there) - Glassed in a level base and strapped it in. My house bank is 2 GC6s under the chart table.

I just leave the switch on "1" - the house bank. I'll only switch to the G24 in case the house bank can't start the engine.

For a dedicated starting battery, under the sink may have room if you can get by with a G24. My boat also has enough room under the galley drawers in the aft part of the galley. But that's pretty hard to get to and you'd need to ensure that shift cables, wiring. etc were all out of the way.

Somebody (can't remember who) on one of the forums has the batteries in the lazerette.

I bought a nice marine battery box and put my start battery under the quarter berth near the fuel tank. A real hassle to get to but very secure it was the shortest run I could find for the cable to the starter. I have my HX and thru hulls etc. that suck up all the space in the engine compartment. Under the sink is a good idea if you do not plan on using that area as storage.
