Add Winch on coach roof

I've 1 Lewmar ST30 Winch on starboard side to handle both the Mainsheet and Jibsheet when on Port tack. I'm toying with the idea of adding another Winch on the coach roof space between starboard winch and Jibsheet cam so that both sheet has a winch. This space isn't design for winch placement as it doesn't have embedded metal reinforce plate. I probably can use large washer under the fibreglass but is the plastic there strong enough ?
Thinking of using Lewmar 16ST or 30ST. Any suggestions ?

Ken

Rarely have I required to use the winch for the mainsheet but it is merely a matter of chocking the jib sheet and reloading the winch with the main sheet. I have considered upgrading that winch as it receives most of the use from helping raise the mainsail to winching someone up the mast. Have also considered adding two additional winches towards the back of the cockpit to allow easier reach when single handling. If you insist in adding one on the coachtop I would install it on a block to take care of the curvature but would install a metal plate to handle the forces. As far as masking the hole on the inside liner you would be on your own.

Mainsheet usage

Don't know about smaller boats but on my Catalina 30, Hunter 37.5 and Hunter 40.5 I NEVER use a winch.
Just not something that seems to need a winch given the mechanical advantage the sheet blocking gives you.

Benny, at back of cockpit is certainly easier to install and it has the usual embedded backing plate. Thanks.

Bill, its either you always have someone doing the winching for you  or your arm size is larger than my leg. :D

Now I've got the two winches. What should I use for bedding? Skilkaflex 291 or what ?

Really!? Your jib sheets run to the coach roof? I have sailed on many newer Hunters and still cannot visualize that. Maybe I am not understanding your post.

But if true then mounting a new winch next to the helm would seem like the way to go.

Yup! indeed my jib sheet runs the track on coach roof where the clutches are and there's a winch for Mains halyard, mainsheet and jobsheet. I'm putting a pair of spin winch on the coaming next to the helm. I can use that for jib sheet (need long line) as well. The newer H33 has genny track on coach roof as well as on the deck, but not my H326. So what bedding should I use. Definitely not 3M5200 for sure. ;)

Lifecaulk comes highly recommended; just follow the instruction carefully. Is the area flat where you're adding the winch? don't want to torque the winch bolts down onto a curved surface.

yup its a flat area for winch mounting. I haven't seen Lifecaulk in market where I'm at. Silkaflex yes, 4200 yes but no Lifecaulk. would any sealant use for bathroom plumbing works ?

I would use the Sikaflex. Even 4200 has pretty strong bonding abilities which makes disassembly a pain if not damaging.
