I am adding a gate in my lifelines, on both the sides of the cockpit. This is a First 285, and there was no gate before. Looking for a gate brace that I can add, that looks original or at least looks good. Any suggestions?
I have seen a few boats without braces around the lifeline gates including a Hunter that I own. As long as I have the pelican hook attached and the gate closed there is no issue with the original lifeline strength. I cannot imagine sailing with the gate open when the lifeline strength is really needed. Is there another reason that I might be missing for the braces? Dan
