We have a 1986 Hunter 23 with no galley. I could probably build one if I had plans. Can anyone tell me where I can find plans or where I can buy a galley? Thanks!

Right. It does not have a galley at all. Wonderful cockpit and cabin. Just no galley. We put the alcohol burner on the step between the cockpit and cabin. Then we wash dishes on the seat in the cockpit. Wife wants a place for the stove and a sink. The paper towel holder in your picture looks handy, too. Any ideas how to build a galley or buy one?

Kermit...

Check out the RV supply catalogs on-line such as camper'schoice.com or campingworld.com . They may have a ready-made unit that could slide into the quarter berth and provide all the niceties that you're looking for--just a guess.

No luck so far with West Marine, camping sites ore anywhere else. This is frustrating! Thanks for your replies so far.

There are a lot of H23s for sale. I think that with enough pictures you could design and build one. Yacht World and Sailing Texas for example. Maybe you can find another H23 owner in the area that has one. Check the Owner Directory, top of the page. Here's another picture. Pretty simple, looks to be designed to slide back.

Does your 23 have the slots at the edge of settee and at the shelf where a galley used to be??? The galley is just a plywood box and therefore are not hard to make. I just don't know if they are interchangable between years. Mine is an '89 and looks just like Ed's .

It seems a long shot to check with Hunter for fab plans. They maintain a list of parts suppliers for all the older boats but the galley was probably done in shop. Just guessing though. Call em at (386) 462-3077.

Rich, Thanks for your replies. I don't have any indication that the galley was ever there. Mine is an '86.

I just got off the phone with Hunter Marine. Boy, was that ever interesting. The guy that answered the phone said, "To be honest, your boat was built the year I was born so I'm not even familiar with it. Let me ask around the office and see if anyone has any ideas." After a long wait on hold, he told me that Hunter does not have any drawings and almost lost all the specifications for it.

So, any drawings or dimensions anyone has would be great appreciated. I can build stuff but don't really do well with figuring out how to build things without instructions.

Thanks to all who have replied!

Thanks, That made me burst out laughing. It amazes me that there isn't a vault of plans and that they haven't digitized them for easy access. Bet there is a story there.... somewhere.

Sure I will take some dimensions. It will be this weekend so give me a way to alert you that I have indeed followed through. There is plenty of opportunity to build your dream galley in the space available. I like the fact that it rolls out for use. And there is a little room to store food in a flat box underneath. The big waste is the area below the bunk that has no access hatch. I'm thinking of how to use it..... got any ideas???

That looks like a slider unit for when not in use, perhaps it can be pushed back under the cockpit seat to provide better space utilization.

Gee Whiz! Thanks for doing that! I will nominate you for "Forum Guy of the Year" for sending measurements. I don't know the rules for posting personal email addresses on this forum so I'll try sending you a private message. Thanks for what you are doing. I will be forever in your debt. My wife will get her galley for Christmas!

I will have to look at my boat next time I'm at the lake, but I think my battery access is just about directly below the space where the galley will go. So the galley will have to be removable. I do have a hatch there. The cushion covers it. You could always cut a hatch if you don't have one.

Thanks again for your help.

I have a '91 H23, and my battery is located in the lazarette, behind the bulkhead. The sliding "galley" unit (the box that houses the sink and alcohol burner) is in front of the bulkhead. Your boat may have the battery under the bunk area that is covered by the galley when it is stowed (slid rearward under the cockpit, up against the bulkhead), though I don't see how you'd service it if so. And if you build it the same way as the factory, the galley will be removable - the vertical face sits on the outer edge of the bunk, and the horizontal surface is supported by and slides along the port side shelf. You remove the companionway step to slide it forward (unstow it); that step locks it in place when stowed.

I took mine out and I'd give you mine but I am in NJ.
A sink, a pump faucet, and alcohol stove can be got at a West Marine, the rest is a plywood box
The layout on mine (88) is rotated from that picture, sink on right stove left.
