Several of the sail loft reps I talked to at the Seattle Boat Show recommend small sprits for the chute. What they're looking for is something that will get the sail out beyond all the pulpit "mess" and bow roller. So, for your use, based on my sailmaker input in the past couple days, the idea has merit and maybe even would be highly recommended.
I've often considered adding something to tack the spinnaker to. Check out the attached photo of a custom removeable SS bowsprit made for a Taswell 43. I'm not sure if I'm sold on the idea yet, but it looks interesting.Trevor
RobertIt was easier to do for my cat but you can probably come up with an easy add on alsoIf you are in upstate NY I might have some raw materials to help you along I agonized over what to do for a long time then I built it on a friday night. Mine is mostly composite for weight reasons. My total investment for fittings and parts plus epoxy was less than $200 The asymetrical spinnaker was a huge bump in performance for mesend me a message ericmatson@aol.com
The Doyle asymetrical and bowsprit came with the boat when we bought her. Boat screams. We don't fly it too often because it attracks too much attention. Crazy Texan powerboaters start circling us cheering, waving, lifting beers and taking pictures. We're just quiet, reserved former Canadians.Monty
Go for it, I put one on my Venture 222, though not a big one, I wanted to beef up my front end. There is a pic of it on the owners submitted photos, for 22 footers, on this site, just hit Windy day at the lake!
