We are looking at buying a 2001 Beneteau 361 with roller furling main. Very nice boat! We want to add a bimini but the boom is very close to where the bimini top would be for a 5'9" person. We do not want to recut/buy a new main. Anyone out there 5'9"+ with a bimini and roller furling? How is the head room? Did you modify your sail? Appreciate any feed back!

Bimini

I have the same boat, a 2002, with the same mainsail configuration and a bimini. I'm 5'10" and there is still plenty of room above my head under the bimini. At least another 3" or so. If you haven't sailed the boat, maybe the topping lift has the boom set too low. With my topping lift at a preset level that's correct for the main (just a little loose when the main's set), the boom is several inches above the bimini top whether the sail is furled or set.

Same boat, same year, in-mast roller furling main

Fantozzi, we have a 2001, 361 that we have had for about 6 months and really love it. We had an awning made instead of a bimini because we did not want the structure up all of the time. We put up the awning when we are at anchor or a mooring (it takes about 5 min.) It is attached in the stern on the two backstays and attached to a padeye on the underside of the boom. I am 5'9"" and the awning is at least 6" higher. I agree with Randall, the topping lift is probably too low. When our topping lift is tight and our main is sheeted hard, I can just reach the bottom aft tip of the boom while standing on my toes and reaching up as high as I can. You'll love the 361, we sure do. Rich
