My Oday 22 came with no anchor, has anyone added one to their boat? Cost? ect. And yes I have looked around Rudy's website for countless numbers of hours.

Anchor kit

I think the most economical way to buy ground tackle is to get one of the pre-assembled kits. I recently bought one that was on sale at West Marine for $69.00 - It included an 8 lb. Danforth-style (not a real Danforth) anchor. 6 or 8 ft. of chain and 150 of 3/8" nylon rode. There is a thimbled eye spliced into one end of the rode and it comes all put together, ready to toss into the water. Although I would prefer more chain (I like to have the same amount of chain as the length of the boat) you can't buy all the pieces seperately to build that package for what they sell the kit for.

Go Danforth!

Hi Dave, I have a roughly 10 pound Danforth with 6 feet of chain and 150 feet of 3/8" rode. It holds great and stows on holders on the bow. I used to bundle up the whole thing and carry up forward when I went to anchor but found that challenging in rough weather - one hand for the ship, the other for your life. My 22 has a bow rail that makes hanging the anchor a breeze. The chain and rode is neatly bundled up to one side of the headsail furler and is kept free of tangles with the furler with small stuff. It may not look to pretty, but I can set the anchor in a minute's time anytime, anywhere. Stay warm this winter! Stu "Karakahl" 1979 Oday 22 CB Centerport

Winter

I am pretty sure this will feel like the longest winter ever not that I have my own boat. Luckily I have indoor/heated storeage FREE at a friends hanger. You better believe I will go and hang out aboard and have some pops thinking its summer. AH well, Cleveland winters make you love the summer even more. Thanks for the advice.

Maybe 2 anchors

Dave, I have a couple of anchors. Both are Danforth style. One is a 13 pound generic anchor, and the other is a lighter weight Fortress anchor which is the same size, but made of aluminum and therefore lighter. It also comes apart for easy storage. (See the link below) If you are going to do any overnighters on the boat where you will be at anchor, you will want two anchors in case some heavy weather comes through and/or the wind shifts on you at night. Given that I tend to anchor in mud and sand, the Danforth anchors work fine, but there have definitely been some times when setting two anchors has been necessary. It's cheap insurance. Also, if you watch EBay, you can pick up some good deals. I picked up the Fortress anchor there for about $75 with chain and 150 ft. of rode. Enjoy your new boat. I have had a lot of fun with mine. In fact, its still in the water for another couple of weeks. Fall sailing can be great fun, even in chilly WI. In addition, you have the lake to yourself. Dave s/v Hakuna Matata O'Day 222
