Accumulator tank

I am thinking of adding an accumulator tank to my water system. Can anyone tell me if it is worth doing? What type of improvement should I expect? They come in several sizes, does anyone have a suggestion on which size to use? I have a 2.8 gpm pump. Should I replace it with a higher capacity pump too?

Added one to mine...

and there was a marked improvement in continuous water pressure. Pump does not cycle on and off everytime you turn the fawcett on. I think mine is one gallon, but will have to verify that. I am pleased with the results.

Not So Sure, Scott..

..I added one Jabsco to my V32, and it was nice not to have it cycle as much. However, the Sureflo pump that is used without an accumulator should not be used with one. It is a high bypass pump specifically designed for non-accumulator applications and will cycle too often with one. My 40.5 does not have one and I don't think the difference is really worth the effort, IMHO. Good luck whatever choice you make. Rick D.

No more scalding!

Added a small 24 oz capacity accumulator last year. Worth it to my guests and me. Improvements: 1. Pump cycles much less. Less wear on pump, flow more even, cabin lights dim less frequently. 2. Its safer with the hot water system...The temperature of water from the shower now remains constant exactly where you blend it. This is why I installed it in the first place. I was tired of getting nearly scalded each time I used the shower. It used to cycle from cold to scalding hot during each pump cycle. My theory is that there is always some air that remains at the top of the HW heater. You can't effectively bleed this out of the HW heater. This acts as an "air pocket accumulator" within the HW heater and keeps the hot water coming in between pump cycles. The mechanical/pneumatic accumulator added just down stream from the pump now compensates for the HW Heater's "air pocket accumulator" by keeping the cold water coming also between cycles, thus evening out flow AND TEMPERATURE.

accumulator

I have the small one available at WM on my 2.8 gal jabsco pump. works great for the the previous mentioned reasons. Bryce
