:confused:I have a 1982 30 and next to the ice box in the rear wall there is a door that leads to the port lazarette , does anyone know what this door is for ?
Some one told me it was for a garbage can?

It's an access door to a garbage can that can be located in the lazarette. My 92 has a tall plastic kitchen trash can which has had one side cut down part way (to the level of the access door and the little shelf behind it) and then is held in place by bungee cords. which are tied into fasteneners in the forward bulkhead of the lazarette. Luckily for me it was set up like that when I bought my boat or I probably never would have figured it out.

I have never seen that? I have a '82 C-30 and I think that would be pretty cool. I cant see it it in my minds eye where you are talking about (location of opening)?

access panel is located around to the left as you go straight down the stairs it is where most people sit a microwave

I use it all the time. I just take a trash bag made for a kitchen can (usually white) and just fit it losely over and inside the odd shaped can. Since the cut out portion is lower than the original can the bag fits in pretty well. From the way my bungee cords are laid out it looks like origionally something more fitted was in there but the cut down trash can works great.

Funny that came up, I just removed mine last weekend and installed a window unit there. We tried to use it for trash but my wife found it a little sloppy.

There was a discussion about that a couple months ago and for those who really do want their trash there it is worth researching; evidently it is not very well thought out the way it was set up... those using it had some good ideas.

Personally, I think it is overkill and much better suited for something more fun.... although we have not come up with the more fun item! It was going to be a microwave until we waited so long that we realize we don't WANT a microwave.

Anyway, research this subject in the search subjects.

I've seen on yachtworld where guys enlarge the trash door and install their microwave so that its not on the shelf in the cabin.. but outside and accessible through a window there. i'm considering doing this to get the shelf space back.
