I bought a new condom for the Edison Mfg. steering quadrant and have hit a dead end in that the 6 - 9/16 or 14 mm hex bolts are apparently secured not by a nut plate or tapped quadrant frame inside the transom but rather with inaccessable hex nuts that spin. Short of cutting a hole in my boat, is there any way to access? There is also a tensioning device inside that I would like to use to tighten the teleflex steering cables.

O'day probably had an easy job of it before they dropped the top half of the boat in place.

Would an access plate on the floor of your cockpit just aft of the wheel help?

Actually I can get to the pedistal end of the system from the "aft cabin", what I need to access and I may have not use the correct termonology is the bell crank and frame that is bolted to the transom on the starboard side of the rudder. I could cut an access in the side of the aft starboard locker, I was just hoping there is some trick that I have missed.

I think access was through the cockpit locker? I guess you go in to the cockpit locker and reach past the bottom of the O/B gas locker (you do have LONG arms right? <grin!>). Not sure, but I bet Rudy at D&R would know! I actually wouldn't be surprised if someone at EDSON might know, contact their customer Service Dept. As I understand..... that RLA System was developed specifically for the O'DAY 272 and perhaps the PEARSON 27 that was introduced around the same time.

If you have "Teleflex" cables, then they must be some kind of replacement by the previous owner, The RLA (Remote Linear Actuator) wheel steering system used EDSON's own "Pull-Pull" cables in flexible conduits when originally installed. Basically, they are the standard wire cables used on all EDSON cable steerers, just running through flexible conduits instead of using pulleys at every turn.

Unfortunately my sleeve is 31" on a good day and I probably need about 48" with a second elbow.
Thanks for the thumbnail. That is the system that I have. I did not realize that Teleflex was a brand name of a single cable set steering system. I have the dual cables as shown in your attachement. I had thought since my USAF days that any cable within a cable was a teleflex, lower case t., be it on a bicycle, lawnmower or an F4C or F102 (showing my age). You are correct, the system is pull pull in that there are two sets of what I was calling teleflex plus two more push pull for the shifter and throttle. The only way I see to tighten the system is to lengthen the outer cable which increases tension on the system. I can see the nylon ajustment nuts for this purpose but that arm extension just ain't happening.
I will follow your suggestion and if that fails, cut in one of those round access holes in the aft end of the aft cockpit locker.
