My Hunter P450 has a Gunert model AC450 ferigerator/freezer which runs off alternating current. When a.c. is not available from shore power or the generator, I have allowed the Heart 20 charger/inverter to supply a.c. on demand. I have been advised that this procedure is incorrect and the inverter should not be used to supply a.c. to the reefer, or if it is, then only a couple of times a day when the breaker is manually turned on. Any advice? How do other cruisers with similar equipment keep food cold? I have increased the standard battery bank by 50% to 630 amp hours and added a large solar panel and wind generator to keep up with the power drain.

Inverter power for refrigerator

I do not know who has told you not to use your inverter to operate your AC refrigerator. Inverters are designed to operate AC appliances, even refrigerators. If the inverter is properly sized to operate the AC refrigerator then no problem should exist. You have enough battery power to take care of your refrigeration needs for a couple of days running through an inverter. The best solution to your situation is to speak to the refrigeration company and the inverter company and get them to advise you on proper operation of your system.
