AC motor in bilge, 1995 HUNTER

my AC pump is not working, can't find 120 volts ac on any 3 wires, ran a 120 volt jumper from an outlet, and it popped the breaker, so I guess I will replace the motor and wiring, but water is flowing from the filter when I loosen the lid,
I am afraid to remove any hose clamps, as it may be open to the sea, the valve doesn't seem to make any difference which way I turn it, could the water I'm seeing be coming from the AC system ? hose comes from the valve to the filter, then to the pump, then to the AC condenser, and out I guess. Anyone know for sure which way the valve is closed ? can I remove the pump from the motor without water coming out there ??

I suspect that the nut on the ball valve is loose. The pic shows the valve in the closed position. You need to make sure the shaft is turning when you turn the valve handle 90 to open/close it. Lined up with the plumbing is open, across the plumbing is closed. There should be a tab/tang on the handle that lines up with a flat spot on the shaft. Once you get the valve fixed you can safely take the pump out. If you can't fix the valve (and pull the boat out of the water) then use a wood cone (you do have a set right?) to plug the hose when you pull it off the pump. fix the valve soonest as this is a great way to sink a boat.

thanks, I'll check that, I do have plugs, I thought maybe plugging the hole in the bottom with a cork from under the boat first, thanks again.

on an electrical note if you did not disconnect the existing wires when you jumpered the motor that may be the problem. If the wires are shorting out it will pop the breaker. FWIW

Since the pump and filter is mounted quite a bit below the air conditioner condenser, all the water in the unit and the hose , all the way to the thru-hull water outlet will flow back when you open the pump or filter.. Could be as much as a gallon , even with the valve closed.. Could be the handle loose on the shaft as suggested, but we don't know how much water came out, and would it eventually stop.

AC motor

as you could see, the wires are disconnected from the motor, I will work on the problem again soon as I can get to it, we don't live on the boat, so no big emergency, also found a wire that appears to never have been connected to anything, stranded #8 in the bilge , may have been a ground wire from the keel to the mast maybe ? never stripped as I can see, clean
cut end, don't see any attach point, seems attached to a bolted plate in the bottom of the bilge. thanks for any ideas.
