I have decided to have AC installed on my 94 Catalina 36. Am wondering how others may have accomplished this? The interior is the traditional with a fold down salon table. Would love to hear from others who have installed one. I'm looking at a 16,000 btu Mermaid system under the seat where the hot waterheater is. Installer says it may be tough to get good air flow into the forward cabin from there. Not interested in venting the aft cabin at this point. Fan(s) should do for the aft cabin. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Walt walterts@aol.com

Call Mermaid

I installed a 12,000 btu Mermaid last spring in my C-30. I spoke with the people at Mermaid before I ordered the unit. They told me what my options were from a location standpoint and what venting items to order. I installed it in the port side cockpit locker. Obviously a C-36 would be different. I was real impressed with their helpfulness. The install took me two days. Works like a dream. By the way, I was able to run a duct into the forward portion of the v-berth.

AC tips I've gathered

I asked this same question a short while ago. Someone responded with a note to look up flagshipmarine.com. It looks like they have a good product. I'm also investigating others, and still have a lot of questions about the actual installation. Some additional comments: - some folks have used the carry-on style AC with success, but I am concerned about the BTU load. - Go for a unit with electrostatic heat rather than the reverse cycle. We're in michigan and the water doesn't get warm enough to extract any resonable heat out of it. - the thru hulls should be dedicated to the AC and not tee-d off of existing.
