Elec. problem-mystery: P28...had many owners...me for last two years Has AC power cord from dock...(as well as DC system w. 2 deep charge batteries.) What I did: a.had electric water boiler pot going on AC circuit b.Turned on DC switch to the "1 battery" setting( to listen to VHF) What happened: AC power cord began "smoking" where it plugs into cockpit AC receptacle. (The plug is "female"; the receptacle is "male"; both plug and receptacle have 3 contacts.. hot, neutral and ground) What I did: a. Turned off the water boiler b. Turned off the DC switch c. disconnected AC plug from cockpit receptacle Results: a."smoking" stopped b. AC plug was burned at one of the three contacts c. Circuit breaker at the dock (not on the boat) DID NOT trip. since then: a.I repeated the above sequence...same results.. b.Read the manuals.....circuit diagram shows 2 15 amp fuses "...mounted on starboard sail locker bulkhead..." Also shows that both AC and DC circuits have common (not separate) ground connection. c. I inspected the wiring. THERE ARE NO FUSES where the manual says they should be(except for the little 5amps on the dc switch panel d. I cleaned and reinserted the Damaged AC plug...the electric systems work fine( as long as I don't run the high amp water boiler while the DC main switch is turned on). Engine starts...batteries charge...instruments work....all ok. I will replace the damaged AC socket. QUESTION; 1. Do any of you with '70's vintage Pearson 28's have fuses or circuit breakers in your AC system? I've looked all over inside my boat and cannot find any. 2. Anyone else here have similar situation? Thanks.......Fred Bear
