Found all the AC electrical outlets along the port side of the cabin of our H36 cherubini without power. Removed the cover and duplex outlet from the galley outlet (furthest aft on port side). Found evidence of arcing and the common wire (white) of the three-wire cable providing power into the duplex outlet was parted at the lug. (Thus the reason for no power to the port-side outlets.) The cable to this outlet has power and comes from the duplex outlet in the starboard quarter bearth, which in turn receives power from the port AC outlet circuit breaker in the nav station. (I know, it doesn't make sense that a starboard AC outlet in the quarter bearth is powered off the port AC outlet breaker but that's the way it is --- and is contrary to the electrical diagram in the Hunter owner's manual.) My question: Does anyone know how the cable is routed from the starboard side to the port side of the cabin? Is it accessible and replacable? The AC cable along the port side from the galley forward is apparently embedded between the deck surface and the liner in which the outlets are located. This cable does not appear to be easily replaced. Is it possible to pull replacement cables from one AC outlet to the next? When we bought the boat six years ago, the surveyor suspected water intrusion in the deck coring along the port and starboard sides aft of the shrouds. The coring was replaced, the deck reglassed and refinished. The electrical connections in the galley AC outlet, although now dry, definitely show evidence of past water intrusion and subsequent corrosion. I believe this is the source of the power failure and we're lucky no further damage resulted. I am now in the process of inspecting all the AC outlets and trying to figure out what I can do to repair/replace any outlets/cables that show evidence of damage. When problems of water damage in the deck cores of older Hunter sailboats are reported in the archives, the focus generally is on potential structural weakness or damaage. Owners of these boats should not overlook the possible effects of corrosion damage to electrical and other components that may be located in or near the water damaged deck.
