Okay - I have a mystery switch on the AC/DC Switch Panel - on my 84 Hunter 31. All the switches are labeled- except this one. This is at the bottom right - and its the only one that's WHITE. It seems to be some kind of power switch overall- as opposed to a single item switch like "cabin lights"- though I'm not sure what it is. Lacking any sort of owner's manual, I'm feeling my way around in the dark here! (sometimes literally!)
Thank you!

Spare.

You have a spare switch that some P.O. hooked to "something" or "nothing". You just need to trace it back, good luck.

Mystery Switch

Ahh Haa, a mystery or spare switch. Probably installed for something the other owner had.. a stereo or light or TV.. After removing shore power, and turning the batt switch to “OFF” unscrew the AC/DC panel and carefully tilt the top away from the mount. You should be able to clearly see the mystery switch and see if wire is attached. The white lever is probably there because that is what was available when the installer bought the breaker. Breakers are available in white, black, or red colors. Example: go to “Defender.com”, and search for “circuit breaker” I had three mystery switches on my ’84 Hunter 34.

Maybe...

It might do nothing at all. I once had a person install some instruments for me and, as a joke, put a toggle switch on my electrical panel. The up position was "Shields On" and bottom position "Shields Off". The switch did absolutely nothing. I sold that boat about two years ago...forgot to tell the new owners about the switch.

Which side DC (starboard) or AC (port)

That may also help to diagnosis its origin. If it is on the DC side you are looking for a 12vdc connection. If it is on the AC side then you know it works off of shore power.

more mystery switch

Ahhh..I see. I couldn't figure it out! I got this HUGE tome in the mail today about 'your boats electrical' ~ nodded off after about 10 pages or so of ac/dc, white wire/red wire.... zzz.. Haha.. Thanks for the tips. Today we spent the late afternoon trying to 'hook' a flag which I sent up the forestay without a downhaul.. To no avail. I guess someone's gonna have to go up there, as it seems stuck up there now!!
I wish the mystery switch was 'flag release' ;)

mystery switch III

The mystery switch is on the lower part of the panel, starboard side. It says 'ac' on the top of that side. 120 vac load center ~ at the top.

mystery switch.. sound too!

P.s. ~ I just siwtched on the mystery switch ~ a huming sound eminates from the sink area.. As if it has to do with water pressure... yet there is a seperate water pressure switch on the 'dc' side. So the switch isn't 'dead.'
