A4 Squeals

Does anyone know why there is a high pitched squeal when I put my Atomic 4 into gear at idle speed? This only occurs when engine is cold. The noise disappears when I increase throttle speed above idle and when the engine is warm. It has done this since I bought the boat three years ago. Transmission appear to work perfectly.

I know they are noisy as hell in reverse but neither of mine have ever made noises in forward and never like you describe. Are you using straight 30 weight oil? If it works fine and the oil pressures is right then likely you don't want to mess with it. There is a way of adjusting the transmission (forward, back, and neutral gap), but you will need a manual other than the the one catalina provided to learn how. It is fairly easy. Richard

A4 Squeal

Hi, I'd bet you a LOT of money the squeal is caused by an alternator belt that is either worn or too loose. Ever heard a car squeal when you rev it up ? Check your engine manual and adjust it appropriately. Good luck
