I am getting extreme noxious gas buildup in a new holding tank installation with a strong release thru a 1" vent fitting when flushing the head and during pump out. I believe my vent line has too long a run, plus is too vertical. I plan to re-route, shorten and change the angle. This will require drilling a new hole in the hull of the boat. Since the vent fitings only come with a small orfus, would you recommend installing a Standard 1" Thru Hull Fitting???

Yes.

So-called "vent" fittings only come in one-size-fits-fuel-water-holding-tank, which is 5/8" Use a regular "bulkhead" fitting--the same kind your bilge pump drains out of. As long as you have to drill a new hole in your boat...Instead of rerouting the the existing vent, how tough would it be to install a second vent instead? Does the tank have an inspection port? If so, it's NOT that hard to do.
