A start in Beneteau cruising. A 323 or a 311.

Hi,
I'm, looking to move up from dinghy sailing to buying a cruiser for use in waters off the East Coast of Scotland (brrrrrr). So after much searching I've narrowed my search down to a Beneteau 323 (2005), a Beneteau 311 (2003) and a GibSea 33 (2001).
It'll probably be a Beneteau, as I don't like the wheel position on the GibSea.

So my question is; I'm looking for a boat to start cruising that can be easily sailed by two people, has a slightly 'sporty edge' but is comfortable for nights and weeks away. I've looked at all the boats but would welcome some opinions or reviews on these two yachts.

Many thanks,
J

I have a 323 and have been very happy with it. It has more than adequate space below, lots of storage space, and a good sized head and galley.

The cockpit is big enough for four for day sailing.

All sail controls lead to the cockpit. Easy to sail for two. Fairly easy to single hand.

The boat is fairly fast because of the shallow bilge and relatively flat bottom. This also makes the boat a little bit tender. That just means that one should reef sooner rather than later. The boat sails just as fast with a couple of reefs in when reffing becomes necessary.

My wife our dog and I spent last winter (7 1/2 ) months crusing the Florida keys the Bahamas and the ICW from our home port of Atlantic City NJ in a Beneteau 323 . We traveled with a 331 and had a great time!
