My 272 came with a Hood Cruising Spinaker. I have no idea if I have a halyard for this sail. Where would the halyard emerge from the top of the mast? Does 1/4 inch line sound right? Rich

jib halyard line and forestay on the mast. Quarter inch may just be a temp line that eventually you replace with a 1/2 or 5/8 line for a spin halyard. But then again you may not have a line run for the Spin as it was not a standard item on the 272 ... If you have the CDI furling you would also have an unused jib halyard, but that is not great to use for the spin. But it does work if you don't have to gybe. Vic "Seven"

272 Cruising Chut Halyard
Rich, I have just installed rigging for a cruising chut on my 'LE, made easy as I had the mast down for masthead and other repairs. Before starting on this I had checked with US spars who handle Zspar for direction. The halyard is internal to the mast and exits on the port side at the front of the masthead. You will need a block hung from the spinnaker crane(bail) up at the masthead. Note that the bail is offset to the port side, so the halyard will run to the left of the headstay thru the block and down. If your masthead is like mine there are two sheaves in the front and two to the back. What I did was to rerun the topping lift line from the side exit at the base to one at port rear, matching the main halyard only to the other side. I added a deck organizer on the port side and ran the T/L back to the cockpit with a line clamcleat etc. The side exit and cleat on the mast is now used for the cruising chut halyard. Note that I use a sock on the sail to open and douse it so those lines run to the cockpit and are more important than the halyard. Also I use an ATN Tacker for the foot of the sail. I would reccomend that you use this opportunity to verify or replace the top sheaves. In my case I had the mainsail shiv disintergrate at the end of last season and they cannot be replaced without the masthead coming off and I found that all shivs top and bottom were needed. Much later design of masthead allows shivs to be removed in situ but as noted not the case with my '88 'LE "Hosanna". Good Luck,
