I'm just curious. I have two boats, a '76 19' Oday Mariner & an '87 h23, both fractional rigs. The o'day has a centerboard (200lbs) the Hunter of course has the wing keel. Here's my question, last week with temps in the low 100's I was motoring out in my h23 with the Bimini up, since I can't sail with the Bimini because of boom clearance I decided to try with the jib alone, the wind just pushed the bow around and I was hardly able to make any progress at all. However with my O'day I have often sailed with only the jib in blustery conditions experiencing only some weather helm but still able to control the boat just fine. Why is that? Thanks in advance Dave h23 "Wind Dreamer"

Maybe the Bimini

It has been a while since I sailed my H23 with just the jib, but I don't recall haveing any serious control problems, other than not pointing well which you would expect. - I stll got back to the dock without much trouble. It was not a heavy wind day, I was just being lazy. Maybe the Bimini is catching enough wind that the head sail is not effective at all. Just my thoughts. Good Luck Bill Leathen
