I must be doing something right! My 8-year-old daughter was watching Disney’s movie “The Little Mermaid” this evening. In the middle of the hurricane scene, as the boat is floundering, she yells out “They’ve got too much sail up!” By George, I think I’ve got a sailor in the making! Impressive!

Hayden, You are definately doing something right! That's awesome that your daughter noticed that! My 7 yr. old son is just getting into sailing with me (basically a novice). I was amused when he told me one of his turtles at home "capsized" when he found it upside down (no- the term was't learned from a sailing experience, but from a jetski experience). Cute, but not near as impressive as what your 8 year old knows! You've definately got a sailor"ette" on your hands! FUN sailing! Lisa

Everytime I see your last name"BUBAK"it reminds me of a situation in Korea. We had a Cpl named Boodak,The platoon Sgt had a very bad stuttering problem and that name was his downfall.Imagine trying to call a guy named BOOOOOOOOOODak in a hurry. One day I remember him trying to call him and he started BOO BOOOBOOO----------and then he yelled out hellllpmmmeee.Sorry to Boodak he got transferred and I never seen him again.

That's a great thing, Hayden

My dad and I never sailed together when I was a kid, but we were both private pilots and flew together every weekend. I'll never forget all the time we spent in the air together - father and son. I am sure your daughter feels the same way. Best Regards, Rob

Yahtzee anyone?

Last summer we were sailing on a gusty day (15 knots. Steady + gusts). My daughter, Anna, was down in the cabin, when I was surprised by a gust that backed about 30 degrees. The boat healed far enough to clear all the shelves. In the process, Anna was hit on the head with a decorative watering can that had never before moved from its home. I hear crying from below and know that I have just blown all of that careful sailing which had given her great confidence on board. While I am kicking myself for not paying closer attention, I hear laughter from below. Anna had taken a break from the tears of pain to make the following comment. “Does anyone want to play Yahtzee. It’s out.” She was pointing at the Yahtzee game, which had been scattered about the cabin. Hayden Watson S/V Papillon 1988 C30 tr/bs Spokane, WA
