A Proper Ship's Log

As I'm starting out with a new (to me) boat I'd like to set up a "Ship's Log".The problem is I'm not sure what type of information should be in such a thing? I saw one on a clearance table at Barnes & Nobel some years ago but as I was boatless at the time I passed it up. And I've not had any luck finding one to buy locally either. With the number of computer programs around it would seem if I had a template or pattern to go by it should be easy to develop and print my own.I'm guessing pages should be set up for Maintenance, Radio correspondence, trips/cruises taken, To-Do's list. Surely there are other types of entries that should go into such a log book?So, any ideas out there? Thanks in advance for the help.

No local chandlery?

You can always buy one from West Marine's catalog. There are several that should cover all your needs. If you're doing hardcore passages you'll probably want a less frivolent one. Since I do a lot of daysails and quick overnighters (and since I'm a chick), I like the ones that have the "People I've met" "Good recipes" in addition to the other stuff. LaDonna

There are a number of logs in the Emporium book store; I'm not sure how much description is attached to them, but they're worth a look. Just search the books section for "log".p.

Thanks for the help. I have an old West Marine catalog and BoatUSas well somewhere.... but if thePC Emporium has them even better!! And "The people I've met&recipes items" sound worthwhile as well Voyaging is not in the cards for quite awhile, heck, I'll be real happy today sail and dream of a weekend at this point! I'll look tonight.
