A proper head on our C-22

Here is an idea I've been playing with for awhile. Our original C-22,(1980 version), had a full marine head with a 15 gallon bladder holding tank under the V-berth. Worked great, and 15 gallons is a lot of crap! Our current C-22 is a MK-II version, and we really like the greater interior space, but the "potty" is still under the V-berth, and even with the removeable cover, the head is a bit tight. We spend quite a lot of nights onboard, and the evening ritual of placing the porta-potty into the salon area is a pain in the butt. Plus, I normally sleep on one of the quarter berths because I don't like having to back down into the V-berth. So what to do? Well, this is our first attempt to resolve this issue. I simply removed the V-berth cushions, and the bulkhead that went across the forward bow area. Now my desire is not to do anything that would prevent replacing everything back like it was from the factory. So I simply relocated the porta-potty mounting hardware so it stays put as the photos show. I may fabricate some fiddle-sticks that would go into the recess areas where the locker covers went. This would help keep our bags in place while sailing. I've sat on the head, and it sure gives a lot more room, and I can sit up with my head just touching the foreward hatch. Heck, I can see room for a magazine rack along side! We've got some cruises coming up, so we'll see how it works. Now granted, we'll only be able to sleep 2 onboard, but it's only the wife and I anyway. Just an idea, and we'll see how it works.

You have my best wishes. I had the same setup on my '84 model. I was the only C22 on my lake with a holding tank and there was NO pump out available. Wellllllll, a Super Gusher Whale pump, a length of garden hose and midnight clandestine visits to waterfront property of someone I did not like resolved that. My wife, at first, liked the idea of an on-board potty, but having to pull em down in the cabin, back in, and reverse process to get out became old. I promised her our next boat would have a real bathroom and air, we now have a C27 and life is good

Pumping the holding tank when we lived in the midwest got to be expensive,($12.-$20.), but out here, pump-out facilities are all over the place, and free. They don't want boaters to pump out in the bays. I already have a marine head that I got off Craigslist,(new manual head taken off a new boat to install an electric flush). So if it works out, we'll install a holding tank set-up,(and no more walk of shame to empty the porta-potty). Another Idea we might try is the "wag-bag" toilets. Friends of ours use this system on their small cruisers and have been pleased with it.

Wag Bags

We've been using wag bags for several years, well satisfied.

I use the extra space for a five day cooler.
