So, this was just a week ago. Sailing from Bayfield, WI to Grand Marais, MN. 60 miles, across Lake Superior in mid-June. It's almost summer and I was bundled up with layers of fleece, foul weather gear, and wool gloves, 45 degrees on the open water and it was glorious!

Danny: Where did you get the stern unit for lifting stern of dinghy? Nice boat and good outing! Chief

Chief, I bought it used (and incomplete) from a craiglist type website up in Canada. Our boat is pretty narrow and cluttered with other stuff like the radar tower which makes davits not such a good choice. The system is a Dinghy-Tow, http://dinghy-tow.com/
I've been eyeing this system for a long time as a possible solution for us. It's not a perfect system; I'm going to do some tweaking to make it more stable but it does work quite well. This was the first trial run. I didn't need to bring the dinghy with me for this trip but I wanted to see how it would handle out on the open water.

The reason I am interested is obviously I can't davit hang a dinghy off the stern of a C250. This might be a smart alternative to consider. Thanks for the info. Chief

My issue with it is that we have a split stern rail (allows you to step over the rail to the swim platform) which is where the lifting mechanism is located. The split allows the stern rail to flex 1/8" or so which bothers me a little. If you don't have the split rail, I think you'd be just fine.
