Looking at SPORT A SEAT ad in the Good Old Boat Mag. Has anyone purchased one of these? Are they comfortable in the cockpit especially against the combing. Any comments? Chuck R. 222 O'Day "GETAWAY"

great

These things are fantastic... Built well (as opposed to the variety sold at your local CA based marine store), comfy, lots of pretty colors- what's not to love? They are great against the coaming, nice just about anywhere...:) B

Very Nice

I bought one last year because I have a bad back disc. Worked so well the Admiral had me go out and get one for her. WM has then on sale frequently

Luv 'em

We have two and love them. In fact we use them in the winter sometimes to sit in front of the fireplace or TV.

last longer than the WM version. I've used mine an awful lot over the past 10 years, way more than average, and they are now beginning to give up. Foam is deal. But that's a lot of miles. Friends with the WM version do not last as long under heavy use, but the into price is better if you catch them on sale. Depends on how you used them.

We have two, bought them at the boat show, have used them for about 4 years and they are wonderful.

WM's

Are on sale periodically and we bought two just a month ago. They were basically 2 for one so we spent around $70.00. I guess you can do the math on whether or not the $94.00 price of the Sport a Seat and its longevity is worth the extra money. BTW: We love ours from WM, but just got them. So we don't know how long they will last.

Well worth the investment

Our first set were WM and upgrade to the Sport a Seat. There is a difference in quality, longevity, and comfort - you get what you pay for. Take them off the boat as well. We take them to kids athletic events were the cusshion and back support are a great improvement to the wooden bleacher seats. Multi-purposing the seats to non-boat uses helps spread the cost out and then they really are not that expensive.

Great for small boat

I echo what others have said about the Sport-a-Seat. I bought two at the Newport Boat Show a couple of years ago. They discounted them about 10% there. I nearly had a heart attack when I saw later at the show that WM was selling their version for $30 each. However, since then I have been reassured by many that the WM product is just plain inferior. I played with the WM seat at a store once, and it was easy to tell the difference in quality after only a couple of seconds. You will love having the seats; in a small boat like yours, they make a world of difference in comfort. I like to face the seat forward and stretch my legs out on the cockpit seat while I steer. The Admiral has been known to make faces of displeasure and disapproval when I tell her about my boating purchases; however, she raves about these seats and tells me I can buy more anytime.

Mike, where was this picture taken????

Mike, You live in Sarasota. You look like you're sailing into a squall on Lake Michigan all bundled up like that... All kidding aside. I went the cheaper route with the West Marine folding seats. The are about half the price, they work, but are obviously not as nice as the sport a seats. When these wear out, they will be replace with the real thing. The one thing that I don't like about them is that they need some rubberized texture on the bottom of the seat. I sent my brother to the cockpit floor on a hearty heal last weekend. He was on the deck looking up before he knew what happened. (it was funny)

confirmation on WM model

I bought a pair from WM a couple of years ago. The frame is very, very thin, poorly painted, mild steel. They bend and rust due to a very thin piece of unsealed plastic film to protect the foam and frame from water. I took mine apart to try to put it back in shape, but it was hopeless and I had to throw it away. They look great from the outside, the foam is acceptable quality, but the frame is just junk.

Check WM on line

I purchased 2 a few years ago and liked them. I found them on sale at WM on line. The local store had them in stock but they were not on sale and they would/could not match the price.

WM seats

Recently spent some time on a friends h36. He has two of these, from WM, and they are very comfortable, and make cockpit time much more bearable. I have read several reports on here that the SAS are better, but I could find no fault with the WM units.

I like 'em

way better than a bean bag chair. Just started using them this year and it makes life very comfortable, especially on long tacks in my tiller equipped Cat 27 cockpit.

You get what you pay for.

I purchased one at the boat show that retailed for around $99 but were being sold at the show for around $70. It has an aluminum frame with excellent padding material. I works like a charm and is light and very comfortable. Had looked at others selling for around $35 and found them heavy with poor padding which made me afraid the frame would damage the fiberglass on the boat.
