Stu:Read your thread on the C34 site regarding cleaning and replacing the Facet fuel pump. My 84 C30, M25, has the same old facet pump installed before the Dahl 100 water separator. Yesterday I removed the bottom of the pump to check the screen, a lot of sluge. Cleaned and reinstalled and now it just keeps ticking, sucking in air and is loose fitting. It appears that it must have been sealed, but I could not find a gasket or any material that would appear to have been a seal. Should there have been one? As you mentioned, it seems that there is a common error in placement of the fuel pump before the water separator. There is not enough slack in the fuel lines to reroute to the separator then to the pump yesterday, so I will have to replace a couple of the lines in order to do so. Second question, I checked to see if the screen at the pick up tube was dirty, no screen. I'm not sure how large this should be, the hole in the tank does not allow for anything much larger than the tube. How large should the pick up screen be? My problem started last weekend with the engine loosing rpm's and dying. I removed all fuel and replaced with fresh. Bled the system and ran for a short time before it died again. Tracked the problem to multiple splices in the wiring from the ignition to the pump, replaced with a new tinned wire. Ran great, 3000 rpm at no load, then only 1900 under load. Also, the fule line from the pump to the separator makes a sharp turn which may restrict the fuel somewhat. I figured fuel starvation and researched to find several links refering to prop size, fouled prop, governot and fuel pump.I recall that the separator should use a 20 ro 30 micron filter, correct? Any help or direction to other links would be appreciated.
